"The art of war was, in fact, an integral part of Roman statecraft...The
Romans did not in general admire war; still less did they romanticize
it; but they understood it, and without appreciating the way they did
so, we cannot understand them."
-- F.E. Adcock

Have you got what it takes to be a world
conqueror? Marcus Annaeus Felix, a veteran officer of the Imperial 20th
Legion is looking for new recruits in your area. Learn skills, drills,
and disciplines of the Roman Legions. This is the chance for barbarian
scum to earn the greatest honour anyone could hope for: Roman Citizenship.
From epic battles in the forests of
Germania to the crushing defeat of Queen Boudicca in Britannia, Marcus
has seen it all, and he's more than happy to give you an insight into
the Roman mind.
Background on M. ANNAEUS FELIX
Born in Pannonia, the son of a centurion in the 20th Legion, he and his mother followed his father's legion to Germania in A.D. 9 to replace the three legions lost by Quintillus Varus. In A.D. 14 the Emperor Augustus died and was succeeded by Tiberius. Sensing opportunity, the legions in Germania staged mutinies to protest perceived injustices and terms of service. Germanicus rushed to Germania to quell the mutinies, assert the rule of his uncle Tiberius, and to launch punitive expeditions against the Germans.
Marcus begins his military career in this turbulent time. He has survived
many adventures, and in recognition of his quirky fate he has ironically adopted the cognomen of Felix (Lucky).
After 34 years of service in Germania, the Emperor Claudius sent the
XX Legion to conquer Britannia. Imperial meddling lead to an incomplete victory and years of guerilla warfare. Later came the destruction of the Druids, and the crushing of the Boudiccan Revolt. Marcus Annaeus Felix achieved the rank of Primus Pilus, and then Praefectus Castrorum, the highest possible rank for an enlisted man. He is the legion. He is now ready to retire, a rich man, after 49 years of service in the Roman army.
